Carolina Acceleration High School Baseball and Softball Today(2/29):Perfect day for some “Season Openers”

Games for today and we may be missing some, but we did the MaxPreps check-in for this morning and here is what we have for today…In the old days you would stop by Walt Hoffman’s Rexall Drug Store on the way to the game and grab a hot dog, but today your best bet might be to try and run one down at your local high school game….Since Walt Hoffman is gone, be sure to check out Carmine Pagano’s Carolina Acceleration ad here at the/our site….

Baseball Today…
Northeast Guilford at Western Guilford….Hearing the JV’s are looking to start at around 4:30 and the Varsity hopes to get going by 7 and with temps in the 60’s, better get these games in while you can…This weather will change….MEG loaded on Varsity and they can go with Jacob Brown, Parker Strader or others on the hill and NEG also has back Carter Williams, one of the top shortstops in the area, plus Brody Holloman, Tanner Hobbs and Bryce Mericka…NEG primed for a very big year…Lots of changes at Western Guilford and let’s hope the moves mean success on the diamond….
Southern Guilford at Wheatmore 5pm…Southern returns Nick Goard, Ryan Caveness and Noah Carter among their top players…
High Point Andrews at Lexington 5:30pm….Not sure if Coach Randy Norris is still running the show at TW Andrews, but if he is, they will be OK and ready to play…
Northern Guilford at Burlington Williams 7pm…Josh Pike pitching and Logan King catching and you are in good shape that way for the Nighthawks, but they also have Cameron Cotter, JC Ouzts and others that figure into what they hope will be a strong year…Playing a conference game your first game of the season??? That makes you begin to focus even before you get off of the bus in Burlington…..

Most of the others schools will be starting on Tuesday, Wednesday or later during the week and the same goes for the privates….Get out there and enjoy the weather today and we will have some softball news up here in a few minutes….

Softball Today…
Burlington Williams at Northern Guilford 6pm…NG has two of the best pitchers in the state(Anne Tewksbury and Ashton Lambeth) returning and look for this team to go as far, if not farther than last year’s team did…Grace Wesoly is a very tough SS, plus Makayla Barricks, Caitlyn Ray, Mallory Price, Hunter Hall and Morgan MacEldowney are all top prospects…
*****Big game coming up this week shows Northwest Guilford at Northern on Wednesday at 7pm….*****
More on this matchup from one of our softball trackers:
Early season matchup at Northern Guilford on Wednesday (JV’s at 5:00 and Varsity at 7:00). The Nighthawks will be hosting their neighbors, NW Guilford. These teams didn’t get to play one another last year due to the weather; but, there are 2 games scheduled for this matchup in 2016 – the next one very late in the regular season. The Nighthawks have reloaded and will be looking to return to the 3A State Championship once again this year. They return Mid-State 3A Conference Pitcher of the Year Ashton Lambeth, as well as leading hitters Caitlin Ray and Hunter Hall – certainly expectations are high at NG. Coach Dorrell has a large group of strong Senior leadership to enter into this season.
The Vikings are hoping to make another deep run in the 4A playoffs. There is a all new coaching staff at NW Guilford, and they could be missing Piedmont Triad 4A Player of the Year Samantha TIngler – at least according to MaxPreps. But, this senior laden group lead by PT4A Pitcher of the Year Gracen Staunton and top offensive performers Becca Gold and Sarah Spence will be looking to make an early season statement.
This game is sure to be a hard fought contest between neighboring schools – this is always a competitive matchup.

+++++Might be a few more games going for Monday and if you have one for today, you might want to get one scheduled right quick and make it a doubleheader, with today’s weather, make it like running the bases, go for all you can get….+++++
