Elon Softball’s Foddrell Named CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Ashtyn Foddrell of the Elon University softball team was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 1.

Foddrell helped the maroon and gold to a 3-1 ledger last weekend at its home tournament, the Elon Phoenix Classic. The Warrenton, Va., native hit .455 (5-for-11) in the Phoenix’s four games along with four runs, three RBI and a home run. She also had a .818 slugging percentage and a double as well. Foddrell belted her first career homer against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 27 while going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. She also put up a 2-for-4 performance in the finale versus the Knights on Feb. 28 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Foddrell becomes the second player from Elon to receive a CAA weekly award this season. Sophomore Kara Shutt was also honored by the league as the Player of the Week on Feb. 16.

The Phoenix returns to the diamond this weekend, March 5-6, for the Buffalo Wild Wings Spartan Invitational hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
