Elon’s Daniels Earns Men’s Baseball Rookie of the Week CAA Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University freshman pitcher Mason Daniels was chosen as the co-CAA Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, March 1.

Daniels, a native of Gahanna, Ohio, helped the Phoenix baseball team to a 10-3 victory and series sweep of the La Salle Explorers on Sunday, Feb. 28, by throwing 5.0 innings and recording nine strikeouts to earn the first win of his career. In just his second career start, Daniels surrendered just one unearned run on one hit and fanned two hitters in four of his five innings. The lone hit he surrendered came in the fourth inning. Daniels’ nine strikeouts were part of an 18-K performance turned in by the Phoenix pitching staff, matching the most for the program in a nine-inning game since an 18-strikeout game against Davidson on March 30, 2007.

This marks the first league weekly award for the maroon and gold this season.

Elon will be back in action on Wednesday, March 2, when the Phoenix visits #16 East Carolina for a 4 p.m. contest.
