GREENSBORO, N.C. – Visiting Methodist University claimed an 8-1 decision at Guilford College in nonconference men’s tennis action Wednesday.
The Monarchs (2-1) took two points in doubles and swept all six singles points. The top-doubles tandem of Taylor Buchholz and John Dangerfield claimed an 8-1 decision over Guilford’s Erik Meiler and Mesa Martorell. Buchholz earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Quakers’ Mason Church at second singles and Dangerfield blanked Aaron Smedley at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
R.J. Clement won the number-one singles contest over Meiler. 6-4, 6-0, and teamed with Teal Howard for an 8-4 triumph over the Quakers’ Chasen Chacon and Graham Pearson. Howard was also a double winner with a 6-4, 6-2 fifth-singles win over Levi Bruff.
Bruff and Church scored Guilford’s lone point at third doubles with an victory over 8-4 Michael Jones and Seth Grant. John Brvenik nearly pulled out another point at sixth singles, but fell to Jacob Groce, 5-7, 7-5, 7-4 in a pro-set tie break caused by darkness.
Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers (0-3) open their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule this weekend with road contests at Randolph-Macon College (3/5) and Virginia Wesleyan College (3/6).
