Phoenix Women’s Track and Field Ends Run at ECAC Indoor Championships

BOSTON – The Elon University women’s track and field team concluded its stay at the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships as the Phoenix finished the meet tied for 11th overall on Sunday, March 6, inside the Boston University Track and Field Pavilion.

The Phoenix made a 10-spot improvement from last season at the ECACs as Elon ended the meet with 23 points. Connecticut won the meet with 62 points while James Madison was the highest ranked team from the Colonial Athletic Association with 48 points in third.

The Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team of Desiree Ross, Lauren Brzozowski, Lydia Laws and Jen Esposito closed out the indoor season with a school-record time of 3:43.91 and finished sixth overall.

Sophomore Brigid Brennan set a new personal-record in the one-mile run as she clocked a 4:56.04. Junior Carrie Abraham also established a new personal-best mark in the triple jump with her leap of 39’ 8.50” (19.10m) and was ninth overall.

Tereza Novotna was fourth overall in the 3,000-meters with her time of 9:35.10. Elyse Bierut was 18th with her time of 9:50.

Sydney Griffin was eighth overall in the finals of the 200-meters with a time of 24.43. Esposito also was eighth in the finals of the 400-meters with her time of 55.61. Bryanna Hames threw a 13.17m in the shot put for Elon.

The Phoenix begins its outdoor season on March 18 at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
