Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity tops Eastern Alamance in back-and-forth affair, 4-3

Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity outlasted Eastern Alamance on Friday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 4-3 win.

Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity scored on a single by Makayla Barricks off Hannah Stiltner.

Barricks had a hot bat for Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity. Barricks went 2-3 and scored one run.

Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity relied on Anne Tewksbury to eat up innings en route to the win. Tewksbury pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs, six hits and one walk while striking out four.

Stiltner was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out 10, and allowed four runs.

In the top of the first, Eastern Alamance grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Eastern Alamance’s threat began with a single by Ally-Shea Loy. A stolen base then moved Loy from first to second. Morgan Lawsonsingled, plating Loy.

Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity survived Eastern Alamance’s surge and put up one run of its own in the first. Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity scored on an RBI single by Jy Martinez.

Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity posted one run in each of the third, fourth and sixth. In the third, Northern Guilford Nighthawks Varsity scored on an RBI single by Grace Wesoly, scoring Mallory Price.
