College Men’s Lacrosse Final – #11 Roanoke 14, Guilford 10

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke College’s IV Stucker scored three times in the 11th-ranked Maroons’ 14-10 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s lacrosse win over Guilford College Saturday.

Roanoke (7-2, 2-0 ODAC) grabbed a quick 3-0 lead before the Quakers battled back to tie the score at 4-4 on Adam Fiore’s goal seven minutes before halftime. The Maroons answered with a decisive 3-0 run, that included extra-man goals by Stucker and Will Pilat. Guilford’s Zachary Berkowitz scored 89 seconds before the half to slow Roanoke’s momentum, but the Maroons’ Colin Mackenzie tallied with one second left in the half to send the hosts into halftime with an 8-5 lead.

The Quakers’ (2-5, 0-2 ODAC) Dylan Haupt opened the second-half scoring 68 seconds into the third quarter and made it an 8-6 game, but Stucker answered with consecutive tallies to restore a 10-6 Maroons’ edge midway through the quarter. Tyler McWilliams scored with 6:55 left in the third to give Roanoke an 11-6 edge, the Maroons’ largest lead.

Guilford refused to quit as Fiore pumped in his third goal of the game late in the third quarter and set up Daniel Hughey’s fourth-quarter score that made it an 11-8 contest. The Quakers drew no closer as Roanoke netted three of the game’s final five goals.

McWilliams finished with two goals and two assists for a game-high four points. Mackenzie, Pilat and Cameron Linsley also scored twice. Kevin Jackson added a goal and two assist for the Maroons, which outshot Guilford, 55-33. Linsley also won four-of-five face-offs and picked up a team-high four ground balls. Ian Davies made four first-half saves and Burke McManus made five second-half stops in goal for the Maroons.

Fiore shared game-high scoring honors with four points on three goals and an assist. Ian Wiesenberg assisted on a game- and career-high three goals. Guilford’s Hughey and Berkowitz both scored twice. Fiore, Connor Manning and Erik Fries each picked up four ground balls, which helped the Quakers outscoop Roanoke, 30-28. Parker Styles made a career-high 18 saves in goal, the most by a Guilford netminder since 2014.
