HPU Men’s Golf improves by six shots in final day at Kingsmill

• Senior McKay Tye fired an even 71 in third round action to finish with a combined score of 227
• Freshman Christian Casingal led HPU with a final score of 223 to finish tied for 45th in the tournament.
• High Point will continue their spring tour April 4 at the East Carolina Intercollegiate.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – Senior McKay Tye fired an even-par 71 in the third round to lead the High Point University men’s golf team on the final day at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate. McKay improved by six strokes from the second round to move up 28 spots in the standings and finish with a 54-hole score of 227 (79-77-71).

High Point’s six-stroke improvement allowed the squad to post a 54-hole score of 918 (308-308-302) and finish in a tie for 23rd.

“This tournament I was very impressed with our players and their ability to keep pushing through,” said head coach Greg Flecher. “McKay Tye stepped up to the challenge recovering from an early double bogey to shoot two-under the rest of the way. Emile Menard played remarkable while being sick throughout the entire tournament and showed a valiant effort to play when given the chance to withdraw.”

Freshman Christian Casingal led the squad finishing the Kingsmill Intercollegiate with a three round-combined score of 223 (73-73-77) to finish tied for 45th.

Sophomores Emile Menard (76-81-77) and Pureun Kim (80-77-77) posted matching scores of 77 to finish the intercollegiate tied for 104th. Redshirt-sophomore A.J. Hopkins recorded a three-round score of 247 (82-81-84) to place t-124th.

Penn State clenched the tournament title with a three round-combined score of 845 (287-282-276). Tennessee (850), TCU (855), Drake (868), and Maryland (877) rounded of the top-five teams.

The squad will return to action on April 4-5 at the East Carolina Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
