Elon Track and Field Phoenix Has Quick Start at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – A school-record in the 100-meter dash for senior Sydney Griffin and a new personal-record for Carrie Abraham in the long jump highlighted the opening day for the Elon University women’s track and field team at the Raleigh Relays on Friday evening, March 25, at the Paul Derr Track facility.

RESULTS

Griffin clocked a time of 11.98 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash and now holds the school-record in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash as well as the 100-meter hurdles. Griffin also ran a time of 13.76 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth in the preliminaries and qualified for the finals tomorrow.

Abraham finished eighth overall in the long jump as the junior had a personal-best leap of 18’ 8.75” (5.71m). That mark is now second-best in school history. Sophomore Bryanna Hames was fifth in the discus throw with her heave of 154’ 5” (47.08m).

Tereza Novotna was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the senior ran a time of 10:28.05. Desiree Ross set a new personal-best in the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.48 followed by teammate Lauren Brzozowski at 56.76.

Elon continues competition at the meet tomorrow, March 26, with events starting at 10 a.m.
