Fuss leads HPU women’s golf on day three in Orlando

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Junior Danielle Fuss shot a final round 77 to improve her position by 21 spots and lead the High Point University women’s golf team on final day action at the Bearcats Spring Classic Sunday.

After carding rounds of 82 and 84 over the first two rounds of the event, Fuss made a pair of birdies and 10 pars to shoot her 77 and finish t-37th at the event. Her position was matched by sophomore Cayla Smith, who shot a final round 79 to match Fuss at t-38th with a cumulative score of 243 (87-77-79).

“Cayla played steady again today and although she had a couple of errant shots, she also made some good putts and shots around the green,” head coach Vici Pate Flesher said. “Danielle was much more consistent today. This week she will need to get confident with her strategy leading into our next event. This next week of practice is important to our development as a team.”

Senior Tan Cheeranont finished the event 77th with a 54-hole total of 256 (84-85-87) while freshman Landrie Grace was 92nd. Fellow freshman Sandrine Yesilian placed 97th to round out the Panther contingent.

HPU finished 16th overall at the event with a three-day combined score of 1007 (335-332-340). Host Cincinnati won the tournament (929), followed by Akron (945) and Jacksonville (947).
