Elon Softball’s Shutt (Southeast Guilford) Garners Second CAA Weekly Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – For the second time this season, Elon University softball’s Kara Shutt was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, March 28.

For Shutt, this is the second time this season she has been selected as the CAA Player of the Week after receiving the accolade on Feb. 16. This is the fourth career weekly honor for the Greensboro, N.C., native, after reaping previous nods last season on March 30 (Player) and May 4 (Rookie).

Shutt continued her remarkable production this season after batting a team-best .563 (9-for-16) with seven runs, a pair of doubles, a triple and a home run last week. She also drove in a pair of runs and drew four walks with a 1.000 slugging percentage. She also extended her reached base streak to 15 games, which is the longest on the team this season.

In the Phoenix’s CAA-opening series against Drexel this past weekend, Shutt batted .636 (7-for-11), scored seven runs while slugging at a 1.182 percent clip. She was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in Elon’s 15-7 victory over the Dragons with a pair of RBI and a double shy of reaching the cycle. She also hustled for her CAA-best fourth triple of the year in that contest.

Shutt and the Phoenix return to the softball diamond this weekend to host College of Charleston in Elon’s second CAA series. The programs open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at Hunt Softball Park.
