Elon’s Personal Records Highlight Day One at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Personal records set by sophomores Brigid Brennan and Corey Weiss and freshman Nicole Karabas highlighted the Elon women’s track and field team’s opening day at the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, April 1, at Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University.

Brennan set a new personal-best in the 1,500-meter run as the Northport, N.Y., native ran a time of 4:36.22 in the race finishing third overall. Freshman Chelsea Smith was 11th in the race with her time of 4:44.44.

In the pole vault, Karabas took sole possession of third on the program’s all-time performance list as the rookie cleared the bar at 10’ 6.75” (3.21m). She finished sixth overall in the event. Weiss also set a new personal-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 11:23.29.

Bryanna Hames had a toss of 44’ 3.75” (13.49m) in the shot put to finish fourth in the event. Kaitlin Snapp was seventh overall in the 5,000-meters with her time of 18:19.22. Emily Cooper was sixth in the group “B” high jump clearing the bar at 5’ 1” (1.55m).

The final day of the meet kicks off tomorrow morning, April 2, at 9 a.m.
