Aggies Edge Elon Phoenix in Baseball Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University baseball team found itself in an early hole against the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Wednesday night, battled back, but then fell late in an 8-7 contest at War Memorial Stadium.

Elon (10-19) saw Danny Lynch go 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Will Nance homered, scored two runs and drove in a pair.

For A&T (8-24), Timothy Ravare went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI and Milton Rivera drove in a pair during a 2-for-5 performance.

Kellan Elsbury (0-1) took the loss after allowing one unearned run on two hits in 1.2 innings of work.

The win went to Kaeson Wilson (2-6) who gave up a run on three hits in 3.0 innings.

How It Happened: After Elon tied the game at seven in the top of the seventh on a Liam O’Regan double, the Aggies took the lead thanks to an unearned run in the bottom half. The last of the seventh began with an Elon error before Ravare singled. With a runner on second and two outs, Adan Ordonez singled home the go-ahead run.

The Phoenix would put runners on the corners with one out in the eighth, but had a run erased at the plate before a strikeout ended the threat.

A&T jumped on top 3-0 in the first inning on a Rivera double, a sacrifice bunt and a Kyle Clary double. The Phoenix would even it up at three in the second as Lynch scored on a Tyler McVicar single and error. Nance then sent a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left for his first homer of the season to tie it up.

Elon would then take a 5-3 lead in the third when Lynch’s double to left drove home two.

The Aggies went back on top, 6-5, in the fourth. Lance Jensen led off the inning with a homer. Rivera then doubled home a run before a wild pitch scored a third A&T run in the frame.

The Phoenix would knot it back up at six when Kyle Jackson doubled home Nick Zammarelli in the fifth inning.

Notes: Zammarelli ran his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games… Elon starter Nick Beaulac struck out a season-high six hitters in 3.2 innings.

On Deck: The Phoenix will travel north to take on CAA foe Northeastern in a three-game series that is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
