Elon Women’s Tennis Travels to East Carolina on Friday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team heads to East Carolina for a matchup on Friday, April 8, looking to extend its five match winning streak. The Phoenix will face off against the Pirates at 2:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Phoenix (10-9) completed a perfect week last week with victories over Delaware (7-0), James Madison (4-3) and Towson (4-0). Elon extended its winning streak to five matches with the three victories.

LUCAS NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Olivia Lucas earned her first-career CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week honor after compiling a perfect 3-0 record at No. 1 singles as Elon swept play against Delaware (7-0), James Madison (4-3) and Towson (4-0) last week. The Greenville, S.C. native has now captured five consecutive singles matches.

BRASCHI ON A ROLL
Erica Braschi leads the team with 13 singles wins this season and is currently on a nine-match winning streak. On March 22, Braschi earned CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. The sophomore has played primarily at No. 2 singles, but saw action at No. 1 for one match in a win against N.C. Central.

SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
East Carolina comes into the match with a 15-7 overall record this season. The Pirates have won three straight matches in wins against Charlotte, Houston and Appalachian State. ECU earned a 4-0 shutout victory against the Mountaineers on April 4 in its last match.

SERIES HISTORY
Friday will be the 16th meeting between Elon and East Carolina. The Pirates own the all-time series 11-4 during Elon’s Division I era, but the Phoenix has taken four straight from East Carolina. Last season, Elon defeated East Carolina, 4-3, on March 18, 2015, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix will return home on Saturday, April 9, for Senior Day at 1 p.m. against South Carolina State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

HEAD COACH ELIZABETH ANDERSON
Elizabeth Anderson is in her 12th season as head coach of the Phoenix. Anderson has led Elon to four straight seasons of 15 or more wins and guided the program to its first NCAA Tournament in 2014.

2016 CAA TOURNAMENT
Elon was selected to host the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, which will be held April 21-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and the Burlington Tennis Center. It will mark the first-ever CAA Tournament hosted by the Phoenix and first conference tournament hosted by the program since the 2013 SoCon Tournament.
