College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 20, Va. Wesleyan 18

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Amanda Dionne (Nashua, N.H./Tabor Academy (Mass.)) scored a career-high six goals and Demming Carlow (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) added a personal-best nine points in Guilford College’s 20-10 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over visiting Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday. The Quakers’ Carter MacLeod (Annapolis, Md./Key School) made a school-record eight caused turnovers as Guilford (6-5) moved to 4-0 in the ODAC.

Jaquelyn Gabaldon’s goal seven minutes into the game gave the Marlins (2-9, 1-3 ODAC) a 3-2 lead, but Guilford scored eight of the half’s final nine goals and led, 10-4, at halftime. Carlow, Dionne, MacLeod and Marina Bailey (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) each scored twice in the opening period. The Quakers outshot the Marlins, 27-15, in the first half and forced 14 of the Marlins’ 24 turnovers.
Dionne scored consecutive goals 24 seconds apart as part of Guilford’s 5-1 run to start the second half. Carlow’s unassisted score with 22:09 left in regulation opened a 15-5 Quakers’ lead.

The Marlins reeled off the next three goals, which pulled the visitors to within, 15-8, before Guilford’s Dionne and Carlow combined on three straight scores that put the game out of reach.
