College Track and Field Results – Guilford Claims Three Top-Ten Individual Finishes at Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s and women’s track and field squads combined to earn three top-ten individual finishes overall in Saturday’s windy Aggie Invitational at North Carolina A&T. The meet featured schools from all three NCAA divisions including schools from power-five conferences and members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

Guilford’s 4×400 meter relay team claimed victory over Fort Valley State in the race as the team of Johnny Sumner, Lee Joyner, Yashua Clemons, and Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) won with a time of 3:33.52.

Clemons also claimed a top-ten finish, placing ninth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 12.60 meters, which was good for second in his flight. The mark is also the eighth-best in school history and his sixth mark among the school’s eight-best performances all-time.

Josephus Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J.Reynolds) placed 11th and won his heat of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds. Mitchell also ran the anchor leg of the 4×100 meter relay with Gus Chambers, Hyson Howard, and Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan), placing third in their section with a time of 44.40 seconds, the eighth-fastest in school history.

Becca Benfield led the women with a sixth-place finish overall in the shot put with a mark of 10.06 meters. The mark stands second all-time in school history. She also placed 11th in the discus throw with a mark of 22.46 meters.

Tess Stryk claimed victory in her section of the 800 meter run, placing 13th overall with a time of 2:33.98. The time is good for eighth all-time in school history and is her fourth finish in the top-eight all-time finishes in program history.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) claimed 15th overall in the 1,500 meter run and sixth in her section with a time of 5:30.13.

The Quakers turn their attention the ODAC Championships, which begin April 22nd at Lynchburg College.
