Elon Phoenix Claims Four Titles at Aggie Track and Field Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four individual event wins including a new personal-record in the hammer throw for Briana O’Grady highlighted the Elon University women’s track and field stay at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday, April 9, at the Irwin Belk Track.

RESULTS

O’Grady had a toss of 157’ 4” (47.97m) in the hammer throw to win the event for the Phoenix. The junior also moved up to fourth all-time on the program’s performance list in the event. Fellow thrower Bryanna Hames won her second straight discus throw title with a toss of 148’ 0” (45.11m).

In the long jump, Carrie Abraham took first in the event with her leap of 17’ 9” (5.41m) while teammate Emily Dixon was eighth at 15’ 11.75” (4.87m). Abraham later finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 36’ 7” (11.15m) while Jayna Coyle was fourth at 36’ 3.50” (11.06m).

Desiree Ross won the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.93. Fellow freshman Meagan Henderson was fourth in the race after clocking a 59.82 with Katie Arbogast sixth with a 59.91. In the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, Sydney Griffin was the runner-up with her time of 13.67.

Rookie Ellie Bennett was third in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 10’ 6.25” (3.21m). That mark is a new personal-record for the Mountaintop, Pa., native and ties her for third on the program’s all-time outdoor performance list.
