Elon’s Elefante Picks Up CAA Baseball Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon senior right-handed pitcher Michael Elefante has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week following his outstanding performance in a win at Northeastern. He becomes the fourth Phoenix player to claim a weekly CAA honor this year, and the first to be named pitcher of the week.

Elefante, a Chapel Hill, N.C., native, allowed just two hits over 8.0 shutout innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters in Elon’s 2-0 win at Northeastern on Saturday. He retired 19 of the final 20 hitters he faced, including a stretch of 13 straight from the second through sixth innings to claim his first win of the year. The victory marked the first shutout win for the maroon and gold since a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern on March 14, 2014.

On the year, Elefante is 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA. He has made nine appearances, including three starts, and thrown 23.2 innings. In that time, Elefante has struck out 25 hitters and allowed just eight runs (six earned). Opponents are hitting just .200 off of him on the season.

Elefante and the Phoenix are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. at home against North Carolina State.
