Road To A Championship Begins Friday For Pride Women

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team will begin its quest for its first USA South Athletic Conference Tournament championship in 14 years Friday. The No. 2-seeded Pride will square off with the No. 3-seeded Lions of Piedmont College at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Coming off its victory over Berry College Sunday, the Pride completed the 2016 regular season with an impressive 12-3 mark, going 5-1 in USA South Athletic Conference play.

“This team is very special, and we were able to dominate throughout the season,” Head Coach Christie Hebert said. “Our record definitely shows just how talented we are, but we are not done yet.”

An amazing senior class has led the Pride throughout the entire season. Midfielder Kirstin Norris tops the USA South statistics in goals (74) and total points (109), while also leading two NCAA Division III statistical categories.

Ashlynn Parks and Kaleigh Hemstock have also had outstanding senior campaigns. Parks, a native of Odenton, Md., has played a huge part in the Pride’s success on defense as she leads the team in caused turnovers and draw controls, while Hemstock has had a banner year in goal. Hemstock has recorded 91 saves and leads the USA South with a 44% save percentage.

“The seniors are the heart of our team,” Hebert said. “They push others to their limits and do not let up, while also providing them with a lot of passion and overall eye for the field.”

The Pride’s newcomers also have contributed. Katherine Holmes provided quality minutes for Greensboro on defense while also recording five groundballs, five caused turnovers, and two goals.

“I am really excited to get the championship chase underway,” Hebert said.
