Elon Track and Field Phoenix Shines at Campbell Invitational

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A win for Bryanna Hames in the shot put and new personal-records for Ellie Bennett and Carrie Abraham in the pole vault and long jump, respectively, highlighted the opening day for the Elon University women’s track and field team at the Campbell Invitational on Friday afternoon, April 15, at the Irwin Belk Track.

Hames won the shot put crown with a toss of 42’ 11” (13.08m). It was the sophomore’s third event win in as many meets for the Charlotte, N.C., native. Junior Briana O’Grady was third in the hammer throw with her heave of 151’ 4” (46.12m).

Bennett set her personal-best in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 11’ 0.25” (3.36m) and was fourth overall. That performance moves her to third all-time on the program’s all-time outdoor list. Abraham had a 19’ 4.25” (5.90m) leap in the long jump while finishing as the runner-up in the event. Emily Dixon was eighth with a 17’ 1.50” (5.22m).

Elon is currently second in the team standings with 20 points behind Wake Forest who finished the day with 34 points.

The meet will conclude Saturday, April 16.
