NINETY-SIX, S.C. – Senior McKay Tye paced the High Point University men’s golf team carding a 73 in the final day of the Big South Championship.
Tye finished the tournament with a score of 226 (79-74-73) to tie for 27th-place. The Asheville, N.C. product was tie for fifth in par-5 scoring (3.17, 2) and notched 35 pars and six birdies during his 54-hole tour.
Freshman Christian Casingal improved two-strokes in the final round to post a combined score of 229 (79-76-74). The Charleston, W.V. native recorded 34 pars and four birdies to finish the championship tied for 35th place.
“McKay Tye was a bright spot for us today shooting a 73,” head coach Greg Flesher said. “He hit a lot of fairways and was superb with his irons. Christian Casingal has been a great addition to the team and was very solid again today.”
AJ Hopkins, a redshirt-sophomore, finished tied for fourth in par-5 scoring (3.08, 1) while recording 37 pars and seven birdies to finish in 46th place. Hopkins posted a three round score of 234 (78-74-82).
Sophomore Emile Menard registered 27 pars and four birdies to notch a combined score of 243 (81-80-82). The Ange-Gardien, Quebec native was selected to the Big South All-Academic team. Meanwhile, Connor Alexander, a sophomore, recorded a three round-combined score of 249 (87-79-83).
High Point finished in 10th place with a combined score of 931 (317-303-311). Liberty took the championship title posting a three round-combined score of 853 (286-281-286). Campbell (865), Charleston Southern (868), Winthrop (883), and Radford (884) round off the top-five.
