College Track and Field Results – Mitchell, Evans Claim Second Place Spots in Day Two of ODAC Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College claimed three second-place finishes in day two of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at Lynchburg College. The men placed seventh with 46 points while the women placed ninth with nine points.

Josephus Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) claimed two of Guilford’s three second-place finishes with strong performances in the 100 and 200 meter dash finals. Mitchell was .03 seconds off of the top finish with a time of 10.95 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Mitchell improved upon his 200 meter dash preliminary time by .12 seconds in his second-place finish with a time of 22.25 seconds, totaling 16 points for the Quakers.

Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) earned Guilford’s remaining second-place finish, in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.08 to earn eight points. The time is good for seventh all-time in school history, his first time among Guilford’s top eight all-time finishes in the event.

Yashua Clemons improved on his 400 meter hurdles preliminary time by .55 seconds on his way to a sixth-place finish in the finals with a time of 57.31 seconds. The time breaks his own school record, which he set three weeks ago at High Point University’s VertKlasse Meeting. He now owns four record times in the event under one minute. Clemons also claimed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.18 meters, which stands third all-time in school history.

Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan) claimed fifth in a very tight pack of four runners in the 100 meter dash that all finished with a time of 11.33 seconds. The fourth through seventh-place runners all finished with that time as Martin was declared the second across the finish line among that pack to earn four points.

Tess Stryk led the women with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.64 to earn three points, winning her individual heat. The time is also a new school record, wish she broke by 6.08 seconds, to earn three points.

Amy Steller (Advance, N.C/Davie County) ran in the 400 meter dash finals, placing eighth with a time of 1:01.50. After her preliminary time broke the school record yesterday, today’s time stands as the second-fastest time in school history.

The 4×100 meter relay team of A’lexus Newkirk, Ymani Breedlove, Jamie McCreary, and Kayla Scott broke the school record with time of 52.48 seconds. The time was .87 seconds faster than the record set in the first meet of the season at UNC-Wilmington in March.
