HPU Men’s Track: Torres, Spaulding lead HPU men’s track at Duke

• Freshman Alejandro Juan Torres posted a new collegiate best time of 3:47.19 in the 1500m run
• Senior Christian Spaulding won his third javelin title of the season with a throw of 65.22m (214-0)
• Senior Will Narramore registered a season-best showing in the triple jump (14.95m, 49-1.75)

DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman Alejandro Juan Torres ran an excellent 1500-meter race Saturday to lead the men’s track & field team on final day action at the Duke Invitational.

Torres finished under the 3:50 mark for the first occasion in his HPU career, posting an excellent time of 3:47.19 to place second amongst 47 runners in the event. The time ranks in the top-100 of the NCAA East Region this season.

Elsewhere on Saturday, senior Christian Spaulding won his third javelin title of the outdoor campaign. Spaulding made the final with a top throw of 62.60m (205-4) in his flight, then threw 214 feet (65.22m) on his second attempt of the final to win the event by a solid 22 feet. Spaulding’s teammate, freshman Liam Onbashian, was 10th with a mark of 42.05m (137-11).

In the invitation section of the pole vault, senior Austin Miller recorded a strong mark of 4.96m (16-3.25) to finish fifth amongst collegiate competitors in the event. Junior Isaiah Henderson was sixth in the B-section with a vault of 4.36m (14-3.5).

Senior jumps specialist Will Narramore put together a season-best effort in the triple jump Saturday while posting a mark of 14.95m (49-1.75) on his second jump of the day.

In other throws action, senior Jim Wilson placed 10th in the discus throw (42.60m, 139-9) while freshman Britton Mann was 13th with a mark of 42.30m (138-9). Wilson also was 14th in the shot put (13.66m, 44-9.75) and Mann placed 19th (12.98m, 42-7).

Junior Vinny Todaro also competed for the Panthers at the Virginia Challenge Saturday and posted a time of 3:57.66 in the 1500m run.

The Panthers return to action next weekend (Apr. 28-30) at the world famous Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
