Elon’s Zammarelli, Ogren Pick Up CAA Baseball Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Winners of four of its five games this week, the Elon University baseball team saw Nick Zammarelli and Ryne Ogren pick up weekly honors from the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday, April 25. Zammarelli was named the league’s player of the week, while Ogren collected rookie of the week distinction.

Zammarelli led the Phoenix to a 4-1 week, including a three-game conference sweep of Hofstra, by hitting .636 (14-for-22) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI. The junior from Lincoln, R.I., had multiple hits in four games, including going 5-for-6 with a grand slam in a victory over UNCG and 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI in game one against Hofstra. Zammarelli was an incredible 11-for-13 (.846) with runners on base last week and posted a 1.136 slugging percentage and a .654 on-base percentage. He also stole three bases in four attempts.

On the year, Zammarelli is hitting .321 with a team-best 19 doubles, seven homers and 40 RBI.

Ogren, who hails from Devon, Pa., batted .381 (8-for-21) with two homers, a double, 10 runs scored and seven RBI in the Phoenix’s five games. The freshman shortstop had multiple hits in four games and drove in at least two runs in three outings. Ogren drew four walks and was hit by two pitches to post a .519 on-base percentage. He also tallied a .714 slugging percentage.

In 39 games this season, Ogren is hitting .281 with 25 runs scored, three home runs and 22 RBI.
