Elon Baseball to Host Campbell on Tuesday Night

ELON, N.C. – With just four games remaining on the regular-season schedule, the Elon University baseball team will play host to the Campbell Camels in a 6:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday, May 10 at Latham Park.

The Series
Elon and Campbell will be meeting for the 50th time. The maroon and gold holds a 28-21 advantage in the all-time series after the two sides split a pair of games in 2015. At home, Elon is 14-8 all-time against Campbell. The two first met in 1962, a game that saw Elon pick up an 11-2 victory.

About Campbell
After winning two of their three games against Presbyterian over the weekend, the Camels enter Tuesday’s game with a 24-22 overall record. Campbell sports a .271 team batting average and has scored 271 runs in 46 games. The Camels have 67 doubles, 14 triples and 23 home runs on the year. On the mound, the team has a 4.31 ERA and the pitching staff has struck out 348 hitters in 405.1 innings. Opponents have a .261 average off of Campbell pitching.

Home Streak
The Phoenix has won nine consecutive home games, a streak that rates fifth nationally. UC Santa Barbara has the current longest home winning streak at 17 games. Elon also trails Louisville (15), Binghamton (12) and Oral Roberts (11).

Picked Off
Through 49 games, Elon has picked off 16 base runners, surpassing last year’s total of seven, which included two by a catcher. Lefty Jordan Barrett leads the way with six, while Derek Pikehas two and Nick Beaulac, Ryan Conroy, Mason Daniels, Matt Harris, Dimitri Lettas and Robbie Welhaf each have one. Catcher Austin Leeney has two.

Turning Two
Defensively, Elon has turned 56 double plays this season. That marks the most turned by the maroon and gold since turning 57 in 2012. The Phoenix’s 56 double plays ranks fifth nationally.

Elon will break for exams before wrapping up its regular season with a three-game series at Latham Park against Richmond. That series will begin with a 6:30 p.m. game on Thursday, May 19.
