The Southwest Guilford Cowboys beat the Southeast Guilford Falcons 2-1 in a battle of cross county foes at Kevin Callahan Field. Jacob Edwards led the way for Southwest allowing only one run on one hit through 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six Falcon batters and walked two.

The Cowboys jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to two costly Southeast errors. Kyle Blendinger got the rally started with a single up the middle. After an errant throw on a Ryan Lilly single, the Cowboys had runners on second and third with one out. Southwest then plated their only two runs of the game on two back to back errors by the Falcons.

Thorn Alley was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed two runs.

Blendinger, a UNC-Chapel Hill commit, came on to get the four out save. He came in with an electrifying fastball striking out two of the four Southeast batters that he faced.

One huge bright spot for the Falcons was the play of Ryan Douglas. He had the only hit for Southeast cranking an opposite field double to left in the bottom of the sixth. He eventually would score on a sacrifice fly from Jarrett Benson. He also came on in relief of Alley pitching three fantastic innings of one hit ball, striking out five and walking five.

With the loss this ends the Falcons season as they finish 22-6. A great season for Southeast as they look to come back and compete again with lots of young talent returning.

The Cowboys move on to round three where they will face the winner of the North Davidson (#9 team in the COUNTRY)/Pinecrest game.
