College Track & Field News – Guilford’s Trent Evans Earns All-Region Honor

NEW ORLEANS – Guilford College senior Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) earned NCAA Division III All-South/Southeast Region recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Monday. Evans received the honor for his performance in the 800-meter run.

All-region honorees are either ranked among the top-five of an individual event in a region according to final Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) data, or part of a top-three relay team.
Evans notched his best 800 time April 30 at the Mountaineer Outdoor Open Meet. He completed the race in one minute, 54.41 seconds, which when adjusted for altitude, translates to 1:54.07. The 1:54.41 clocking is third-fastest in school history and the 1:54.07 ranks second among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competitors this year. Evans placed second in the 800 at the ODAC Championships in April to earn Second Team All-ODAC recognition.

Evans also holds the Guilford standard for the outdoor 400 (49.59, 2015), which he set in May 2015 at the Appalachian State Open. He set Guilford’s school record for the indoor 400 in February with a time of 51.76 seconds at the Vince Brown Invitational.

Evans clocked Guilford’s best time this spring in events other than the 800. His 1500 mark of 4:07.09 was the team’s fastest this year. The senior also had the Quakers’ best outdoor mile time (4:32.87). Evans was also a key member of the Quakers’ 4×400 relays.

Evans, who graduated May 14 with a degree in psychology, helped coach Danny Cash’s team finish seventh among nine teams at the 2016 ODAC Outdoor Championships.
