IMG and Bishop Gorman are in a different league. There should be a too 25 for schools whose kids play in there assigned district. SMH
Agreed IGM and Bishop are basically AAU style football All-Star teams. They have better facilities than most colleges. Remember back when High School sports were you played for your hometown with your friends you grew up with and tried to beat the other neighborhoods. Long gone are those days even in our public schools here in Guilford County transferring is out of control.
I also remember the days of when everyone played for their hometown team while trying to beat the next door neighbor. I also remember being suck with a coach that had zero idea how to promote players to college coaches (in fact, I don’t think he cared about the process). Most of the kids that are transferring for football or basketball reasons are leaving for primarily 1 of these 3 reasons – #1 a winning program that will help shine a light on their play, #2 play for a coach that has clear & proven college coach relationships, and #3 play for a coach & program that understands how to train for the next level. I think all coaches care about their program & kids but too many of them do not train for the next level. Training to win does not necessary mean that a player is receiving the necessary skills that translate to the next level. When you get a coach that can do both you end up with programs like Northern, Page and Dudley in football.
People have gone absolutely crazy with this moving to get my kids exposure crap. If they’re good enough the colleges will find them no matter how bad the HS team or the coaching is. In College they understand that not every coach knows what some college coaches know. That is because they spent 12-15 hours a day doing nothing but football.
Now when it comes to your kids getting offers its simple. They must fit the mold of what were looking for. First things first whats the Transcript look like? No grades no Play end of discussion. If they run a 4.3 40 and have all C’s and D’s you can’t get them into any school in America. Then If the DC comes in and says to the position coaches all corners we go after must be 6ft or taller it doesn’t matter what the highlight looks like or how fast he is end of story. Once we notice they fit the mold lets just say 6ft or taller how fast can they run and is he a good football player. In the end we can build football skill if they have some natural talent but we can’t make them taller or faster. Don’t get me wrong they have to be able to play but if they don’t fit the mold sorry. You can maybe walk-on and prove yourself but no money will be given to such a high risk investment.
So you think moving away to another High school is going to get your son or daughter an offer you’re mistaken. During my time in and around the Triad every single coach sold their kids very well. Then you had some that over sold and flat out lied about the kids trying to get offers. In the end no offers will be given out without the HC, OC, or DC signing off and they must have facts from their staff not your High School coaches facts. I recruited one Greensboro WR listed on a roster as 6’3″ 200lbs. He Came to our camp and we measured him he was 6ft 1/2″ 185lbs. That so you know happened multiple times from this same coach. So guess what? From then on I never believed him about a single one of his players. I did my own evaluation and passed it on to our DC and HC. In closing if they’re good enough colleges will find them quit worrying about recruiting so much and just let your Sons and Daughters enjoy this fun time in their life and if they go on to play college ball good for them if they don’t its not the end of the world.
Here is the next million dollar idea…..create a way to educate parents and kids to the fact that MORE than LIKELY….they have ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE to play at the highest level….High School is for educating kids…not self-promotion from an athletic standpoint….it is hilarious how some kids and their parents think they have a legitimate chance after high school….newsflash….you WILL NOT play professionally….and most of you are barely a Division III prospect….for the 1 in 10,000 that has a SMALL chance to possibly get a LOOK from an organization at the highest level…..hate to tell you all but it DOESN’T MATTER where your kid plays….
