Elon Men’s Golf Adds Three for 2016-17 Season

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s golf head coach Don Hill has announced that three players will join the Phoenix program for the 2016-17 school year. Joining the program will be William Harwood (Columbia, S.C./Ben Lippen School), Logan Membrino (Ponte Vedra Beach/Ponte Vedra High School) and William Ronnholm (Espoo, Finland/Gymnasiet Svenska Normallyceum).

“I am excited about the future of Elon golf,” Hill said. “We are adding three elite players to our program that will help us in our pursuit of winning a Colonial Athletic Association championship.”

During his time at the Ben Lippen School, Harwood helped his squad to two SCISA Midlands Region titles in 2013 and 2014 and was named SCISA Region Player of the Year as a junior in 2015. While participating in a junior tour, Harwood competed in six events since 2015. He won titles at the NJGT at Rumbling Bald and the HJGT Greenville Junior at Pebble Creek in 2014. He earned a top-five finish in five tournaments and was a medalist at the AJGA Will Claxton. Harwood is the 80th-ranked player by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.

“We are extremely excited about William Harwood’s upside and feel that his best golf is a head of him,” explained Hill. “He has flown under the radar a little bit, and I feel he has the talent and attitude to contribute to us winning championships.”

Membrino is currently ranked 28th in the U.S. by the GolfWeek Sagarin rankings for 2016 and is 70th overall for his age group. He was named The Record’s Golfer of the Year and All-First Coast Golfer of the Year as a senior in 2016. Membriano helped lead the Ponte Vedra Sharks to two state titles in four years. During his time on the junior tour, he competed in 10 tournaments, including the AjGA Championship at North Hampton in 2015. He also won a title at the FJT in 2015 at the Walt Disney World of Golf. In 10 tournaments, Membrino earned a top-10 finish seven times. He joins rising sophomore Philip Loeb as the second player of the roster from Ponte Vedra Beach. Loeb and Membrino played together in the junior ranks.

“Logan will be an instant impact player,” said Hill. “He had a great junior career and has proven he is ready to compete in the CAA. He is as consistent of a junior player in all phases of the game you will find.”

Ronnholm highlighted his senior season with a fourth-place finish at the 2015 U-21 Finnish Matchplay Championships and competed in three U-21 junior tournaments in the same season. He also claimed a season-best finish of second at the Espoon Golfseura Championships in 2015. In 2014, Ronnholm qualified for the Finnish Pro Tour and had five top-10 finishes in his junior campaign. Ronnholm also won two tournament titles in 2013 on the Alue Tour and at the Bonita Bay Club Championship. Overall, Ronnholm has competed in 27 total tournaments.

“William Ronnholm has competed at the highest levels of junior golf in Europe,” Hill said. “He has competed in some very elite tournaments and that will help his talent translate well at the collegiate level.”
