Greensboro, N.C. – South Granville found themselves down 2-0 to West Lincoln in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the defending 2A Softball State Champions would not go down quietly. With one out in the fifth, the Vikings managed to put a runner on off of a Rebel error before the next two batters singled. Then Viking clean-up hitter Megan White stepped in and delivered a grand slam home run to give the Vikings a 4-2 lead. They wouldn’t look back on their way to taking a 5-4 victory in game one of the best-of-three series.
West Lincoln responded in the top of the seventh inning as Jessica Adams delivered a one-out two-run homer to tie the game at four. She had three RBI’s on the night.
South Granville answered as Adams roped a one-out double bringing up Viking junior second baseman, Abbi Colclough. Colclough served up a game-winning RBI single, plating Adams from second.
Miranda Baker pitched well for the Lady Vikings, tossing 7 innings and allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out a pair on the night.
Game 2 of the 2A Softball Championship series between West Lincoln and South Granville is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at UNCG’s Spartan Softball Stadium.
