GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cassidy Wise spun a complete game three-hitter shutting out South Granville to force a decisive game three in the 2A Softball State Championship Series with a 4-0 win. Wise was nearly flawless in the circle, allowing only three hits while striking out four batters on the afternoon. The Vikings never had a runner advance past second base.
West Lincoln jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning as Carson Warlick touched home on an RBI-single by Meredith Ferguson, one of three Rebel hits in the opening frame. The Rebels tacked on three more in the fifth when Bailey Reep drew a leadoff walk coming around to score on an RBI double by Kinsley Gilmore. Raeven McCrodden reached on a fielder’s choice with two outs in the inning making it to second on a wild pitch. Then Warlick singled and McCrodden across the plate and came around to score herself on an RBI single by Jessica Adams giving Wise all the cushion she needed at 4-0.
Game three of the best-of-three series between South Granville is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at UNCG’s Spartan Softball Stadium.
