Asheboro, N.C. – The Asheboro Copperhead (4-2) bats came alive late but the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (5-3) worked out of crucial jams to win 6-3 on the road.

The HiToms struck first on a RBI single sent up the middle by Coll Stanley in the top of the second inning.

It wad 1-0 until the top of the fifth with Carson Jackson punched a single that brought in two more HiTom runs. Then a wild pitch from Asheboro starting pitcher Pete Grasso (0-1) scored another run bringing the HPT advantage to 4-0 after five innings.

Danny Sullivan picked up RBI number 11 on a single to right field in the top of the seventh. An RBI double by Brad Jarreau to deep center field added an insurance run for the HiToms in the top of the eighth.

Two runs came into score on an RBI single down the right field line by Colby Barnette to cut the HiTom lead in half, 6-3 after eight innings.

HiTom reliever Taylor Sugg hung on to the lead for the HiToms even with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth. A lineout by TJ Nichting to first base almost ended the game with Sullivan diving to the bag at first just late. A groundout would eventually end it as Asheboro left the bases loaded to end the game 6-3.

Robert Donnelly (2-0) was the winning pitcher going 6 1/3 innings, only letting up one run on five hits while striking out five batters. Austin Reich finished out the seventh inning in relief before Sugg came in for two innings for the HiToms.

The HiToms are back at Finch Field on Friday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m against Forest City.
