Powerade State Games Rolls Into Second Weekend

After an opening weekend that featured over 1,500 participants in the Track & Field Meet, the Powerade State Games of North Carolina opens its second weekend of competition tonight on the ice as Youth Ice Hockey gets underway. Forty-three youth ice hockey teams will play at the Polar Ice House in Wake Forest, the Polar Ice House in Cary, Raleigh Center Ice and the Raleigh IcePlex. Competition begins just before 6pm tonight and runs through the weekend, with championship games slated for Sunday afternoon. Other events taking place this weekend include two BMX events, Skateboarding, Sporting Clays, Sand Volleyball and Youth Baseball. The Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex in Holly Springs is hosting BMX on Saturday and Skateboarding on Sunday. Capital City BMX is hosting a BMX event on Sunday evening, beginning at 6pm. Sporting Clays will be held at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford on Saturday, starting at 9am. Adult Sand Volleyball will be held at the Southern Sand Volleyball Complex in Apex on Saturday (9am start) and Sunday (1pm start). Finally, Youth Baseball will be held at Thomas Brooks Park and Middle Creek Park in Cary on Saturday and Sunday as well.
