Elon Baseball Adds Two to Incoming Class

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head baseball coach Mike Kennedy has announced the addition of two players to the Phoenix’s incoming class. Joining the maroon and gold this fall will be right-handed pitcher Kyle Brnovich (Milton, Ga. / Kings Ridge Christian) and catcher Hayden Platt (Naples, Fla. / Florida Southwestern State College).

Brnovich, who is 6-3 and 180 pounds, was selected as the 2016 Georgia 6A Region Pitcher of the Year and was a Georgia 6A first-team selection. During his senior season for coach Dallas McPherson, Brnovich posted an 8-2 record and struck out 135 hitters, the most in Georgia, in 72 innings. The team MVP was also a standout at the plate, hitting .326 with three home runs and a .443 on-base percentage. Brnovich’s play helped his prep squad to 2014 and 2015 Georgia 6A state titles and a 2016 Georgia 6A regional crown. He was an all-state selection and rated as the 16th-best prospect in the state of Georgia by MaxPreps.

Kyle is the son of Sam and Cathy Brnovich.

Platt, who is 6-3 and 225 pounds, began his collegiate career at the University of Central Florida where he red-shirted in 2014. In 2015, Platt played at Broward College where he hit .253 with one home run and six doubles in 37 games. He spent the 2016 campaign at Florida Southwestern where he belted six home runs and drove in 28 runs, while hitting .346 in 40 contests. In a game against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, Platt went 3-for-5 with a double and homer. He also drove in five of the team’s seven runs in that outing.

Platt played his high school baseball for coach Rick Turner at Naples High. As a prep, he was a four-year letterman who earned both all-area and all-league honors four times. Platt concluded his prep career with a .389 batting average and 87 RBI. A member of the National Honor Society and recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award, Platt also played basketball.

Hayden is the son of Robert and Amanda Platt.
