HiToms regroup to beat Forest City 10-5

High Point/Thomasville, N.C. – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (6-5) started strong and finished strong to best the Forest City Owls (6-5) 10-5 on Tuesday night.

An RBI double pulled down the first base line by Daniel Sullivan plated the first run of the game to put the HiToms out to an early 1-0 lead after one inning.

The scoring barrage continued in the bottom of the second for the HiToms with an RBI single by Cesar Trejo and a run trickling in from a fielder’s choice off of the bat of Drew Frederic. The exclamation point in the inning was a two-run shot from Brad Jarreau that bounced off the top of the digital scoreboard in left field.

Down 5-0 in the top of the third, the Owls would waste no time to strike right back. After keeping the inning alive with two runs, Adan Ordonez knotted up the game with a three-run homer that banged off the hand drawn manual scoreboard in left center off of HiToms starting pitcher Jacob Norman who struck out five batters in 3 2/3 innings. After all that it was a brand new ballgame after three.

Sullivan broke the tie with a solo long ball towards dead center field and that shifted the momentum back to HPT.

Ryan Owens (1-0) put a goose egg on the board in the sixth and seventh innings while only allowing one hit.

After the stretch in the seventh, three insurance runs scooted across home plate on an error by Forest City shortstop Melvin Rivera, a sacrifice fly by David Fry and another RBI single by Trejo. If that wasn’t enough, Carson Jackson bombed a no doubter over the left field wall to make the score 10-5 HiToms.

That would be the final score as Austin Reich came out of the bullpen throwing gas racking up 5 strikeouts over the final two innings to seal the win for the HiToms.

High-Point Thomasville hosts the Holly Springs Salamanders tomorrow night on YMCA night at Finch Field with the action starting at 7 p.m.
