Asheboro, N.C. – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (7-6) stayed in the game but ultimately lost 6-3 at the Asheboro Copperheads (9-3) on Thursday night.

Nic Perkins belted a solo homer over the right field fence in the bottom of the second inning as Asheboro struck first up 1-0. The Copperheads manufactured another run in the bottom of the third after a pitch got away from HiTom catcher Wyatt Cross and Derek Perry scooted from first to third. A double steal worked to perfection to score Perry and give Asheboro a 2-0 lead.

The shutout was broken up in the top of the fifth on a RBI double sent to right field from Carson Jackson.

Asheboro quickly roared right back as HiTom starting pitcher Ryan Kahny (0-3) loaded up the bases as Connor Lind hit a single to bring in two runs. A RBI groundout by T.J. Nichting a batter later moved the Copperheads ahead 5-1 after five. Kahny threw six innings, gave up five runs all earned unofficially and struck out four Copperheads.

Not quite done yet, Brad Jarreau cranked his third homer of the season in as many games over the wall in right field to keep the HiToms in the ball game trailing 5-3.

Devin Sweet (2-0) was spectacular on the bump for Asheboro going seven innings, striking out 11 batters and only allowing one walk.

One more insurance run was added in the bottom of the eighth and the Copperhead bullpen did the rest to knock off the HiToms 6-3 in a Coastal Plain League West Division matchup.

A rematch between the Copperheads and HiToms is set for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Finch Field.
