Greensboro Grasshoppers’ ace pitcher Chris Paddack traded to San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins get reliever Fernando Rodney:Paddack named SAL Pitcher of the Week

Marlins land Rodney in trade with Padres
*****San Diego receives ranked pitching prospect Chris Paddack for veteran closer*****
Paddack had gone 15 consecutive hitless innings for the Greensboro Grasshoppers…5 Innings per game over three games…
Paddack was a Top 25 prospect for the Miami Marlins and his Greensboro numbers were almost off of the charts…(2-0)/0.95 ERA/6 Games/6 Starts/28.1 Innings/9 Hits/3 Runs/3 Earned/2 HR’s/3 HBP/2 BB’S/ 48 K’s…The guy/Paddack who we called ‘Padlock’ was “off the charts”….The Marlins already have an ace reliever in A.J. Ramos, a former Hopper, so they must be looking for a double lock-down in the bullpen…Jeff Mills said on Twitter and I agree with this too, Stunned by @Marlins decision to swap pitching prospect @PaddackChris for Fernando Rodney. Paddack is 20; Rodney is 39….And from Andy, the Marlins already have A.J. Ramos…If he goes down, get somebody then…..

Paddack Named SAL Pitcher of the Week
Hoppers(former) starting pitcher Chris Paddack was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for June 20-26! In 5 innings pitched, he struck out 9 batters, issued no walks and did not allow a run or hit. Additionally, Chris has held opposing batters to a .098 batting average in 28.1 innings pitched so far this season.

ATLANTA — An area of strength for the Miami Marlins got even deeper on Thursday as they acquired veteran reliever Fernando Rodney from the Padres for pitching prospect Chris Paddack.

Sending a signal to the team, the league and the fan base that they intend to contend in the National League East, the Marlins brought Rodney’s 253 career saves to a Miami bullpen that already is strong in the back end.
