Kutscher provides the fireworks in exhibition win

High Point/Thomasville, N.C. – Myles Kutscher’s second homer of the night lifted the High Point-Thomasville HiToms past the Catawba Valley Stars 5-4 in exhibition play on Sunday evening.

Kutscher launched his first homer of the game over the left field fence in the bottom of the second inning to put the HiToms on the board first.

The 1-0 advantage held until the top of the fifth when Shae Durham cleared the bases for a grand slam off of HiTom starting pitcher Stevie Powers. The CVCL Stars forced the HiToms to fight from behind 4-1.

The answer came in the bottom of sixth inning when Hunter Slater capped off a two out rally with a 2-RBI single up the middle. Slater was just a home run away from hitting for the cycle.

Mike Warren in HiToms debut made sure that the Stars didn’t extend their lead going three solid innings in relief.

Catawba Valley inserted a new pitcher every inning to keep the HiToms guessing but in the bottom of the eighth Kutscher blasted a two-run homer over the left center field wall off of Ricky Siguero to reclaim the lead for the HiToms 5-4.

HPT slugger Carson Jackson switched rolls and came in to pitch to close out the game. He did so promptly by striking out the side to secure a 5-4 HiTom exhibition victory.

The Coastal Plain League second half officially starts tomorrow on Independence Day for the HiToms against Holly Springs at 7 p.m. at Historic Finch Field.
