CVCL All-Star Game:
Gray All-Stars Defeat Blue All-Stars 4-2

Pitching Shines in 2016 CVCL All-Star Game
The Carolina Virginia Collegiate League lived up to its billing with a 4-2 win for the Gray All-Stars on Sunday July 10. Dominant pitching was showcased all evening long as the Gray team outhit the Blue All-Stars five to four in the contest. The Gray squad struck early as they scored two runs in each of the first two innings of the contest. Strong defensive plays late in the game thwarted a Blue All-Star rally to secure the win. RBI’s by Roanoke Rails slugger Nic Ratliff and Fuquay Varina Twins outfielder Cody Montgomery staked the Gray All-Stars to an early lead. The Gray team added to its lead in the second behind singles from North Wake Fungo outfielder Justin Dean and Kernersville infielder Randy Norris to lead 4-0. The Blue All-Stars scored their first run in the sixth inning by a successful double steal by Mooresville infielder Colton Chapman and Charlotte Crusher outfielder Tyler Fuller. The Blue All-Stars inched closer in the seventh behind a single from Rise Up infielder Hunter Jackson and RBI triple by Catawba Valley outfielder Marcus Wilson to make the score 4-2. Gray team third baseman and North Wake infielder Tyler Hardee’s strong eighth inning unassisted double play secured the win for the Gray squad. Roanoke starting pitcher Troy Beckner earned the win on the mound for the Gray squad after tossing a scoreless inning while Fuquay Varina’s Troy Maslowski earned the save.

  1. I was at the Post 87 vs Redwings game last night and 87 got some very timely hits. Both 87 and Redwings have some really good players. 87 looks to have the edge a little going forward. Wilkinson, Edwards, Fischvogt, Callaghan, Brandenburg all came up with some bit hits to keep the lead. I expect to see the Redwings come out strong tonight. They can’t afford going down 2-0 in a best of 5.
