HIGH POINT, N.C. – A league-best 74 percent of High Point University student-athletes have been named to the 2015-16 Big South Presidential Honor Roll, the conference office announced Tuesday.
A school-record 177 HPU student-athletes earned presidential honor roll accolades for the past year of academic performance. The 74.37 percentage ranked HPU No. 1 in the conference for the second year in a row. The Panthers held a substantial lead over second place UNC Asheville (69.10), followed by Winthrop (61.11), Radford (60.73) and Coastal Carolina (60.68).
In sport-by-sport rankings, HPU led the conference in men’s golf (9 selections), women’s basketball (12), women’s lacrosse (27), women’s soccer (28) and women’s track/cross country (29).
To qualify for the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative 3.0 GPA for the full academic year (2015-16).
“Our department puts a critical emphasis on academic achievement, and I’m proud to say we’ve topped the Presidential Honor Roll standings in each of the past two years,” athletic director Dan Hauser said. “I’d like to congratulate our student-athletes for their dedication in the classroom and for their outstanding performance in this area.”
The list does not include the men’s lacrosse program, which is a member of the Southern Conference. A total of 30 members of the team were named to the SoCon Honor Roll, released on July 5. That ledger also recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or above.
