Gus Mota Announces First Wave of 2016 Recruiting Class

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College Head Women’s Soccer Coach Gus Mota announced seven members of 2016 recruiting class Wednesday.

“The entire Greensboro College women’s soccer staff would like to welcome the 2016 recruiting class to our program,” Mota said. “We are extremely excited about this class as we have had the opportunity to evaluate each of them on multiple occasions, and we are also excited about the attributes each one of them will bring to the team.

“Our main focus with this class was to provide our returners the much-needed depth to compete for a conference title. Our returners are excited to welcome these newcomers to our team, and together we are looking forward to a bright future.”

Devin D’Agostin
Cary, N.C.
Panther Creek High School
5 feet, 3 inches

Freshman

PREP: D’Agostin was a member of the Panther Creek High School women’s soccer team for four seasons; that team was state runner-up in 2014 and state champions in 2015. D’Agostin also was a strong performer in the classroom as she was a junior marshal was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Why Greensboro College? “I was really interested in going to college and starting the next chapter of my life in Greensboro. After finding out I could continue playing soccer in this area, I was eager to tour the campus and meet my new teammates. Greensboro College was just what I was looking for to continue my education and soccer career. I am looking forward to making my mark in the classroom and on the soccer field.”

Eastern Alamance High School

Prep: Fisher was a four-year member of the Eastern Alamance High School women’s soccer team, where she was named the team’s MVP while earning All-Conference and All-Academic honors two times. She also served as a team captain.

Why Greensboro College? “I looked at several other colleges that were much larger than Greensboro College, but after speaking with admissions and athletics, I know that I would be just another number to them. When I first entered Greensboro College’s campus, I did not think Greensboro would be a good fit for me until I met Julie (Schatz) and Chakiris (Moss) in admissions. They made me feel like I could really be a part of Greensboro College, and not just attend. What really impressed me is that the next time I saw them they remembered me.

“When I set up an overnight visit, two things really impressed me about the team. They were not only passionate for soccer, but they care about one another. That is when I really got to know Coach Mota, and he is a great coach with a vison of what Greensboro College women’s soccer could actually be.”

PREP: George was a four-year member of the Eastern Guilford High School women’s soccer team, where she received Academic All-Conference honors four times. Anna also earned All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year honors following her senior campaign. In addition to her Academic All-Conference honors, Anna was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club.

Why Greensboro College? “Staying close to home for college was important to me. After being near the beautiful campus all of my life, I decided to make it my home for the next four years. The other players and I connected right away, and they made me feel welcome. I am looking forward to being a member of the soccer team, as well as furthering my education at Greensboro College.”

Why Greensboro College?: “I always knew that I wanted to attend college outside the state of Virginia. After touring and visiting multiple schools, I felt most connected with Greensboro College. I am excited to spend my next four years playing the sport I love with a talented group of girls and making new memories away from home.”

PREP: Karch played four years of women’s soccer at Oakdale High School, during which he team won a regional championship and reached the state semifinals. She earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in her senior season. Karch also received Second-Team All-County honors, while also being named Bear of the Year.

Why Greensboro College? “After visiting the school I felt that Greensboro College was a great place for me to spend my next four years. Once I met the team, they were so welcoming and made me feel like I would be a great fit. I am so thankful to be able to continue playing the sport I love at the collegiate level. I am excited to attend Greensboro College and start making new memories with the team and my classmates.”

PREP: Kinley was a four-year member of the Eastern Guilford High School women’s soccer team, while also playing volleyball. During her high school career, she received All-Conference honors two times. She also was a four-time Academic All-Conference member and finished in the Top 10 of her class. For her performance in the classroom, Makayla was inducted into the Beta Club and the National Honor Society and served as a junior marshal.

Why Greensboro College? “After visiting Greensboro College multiple times I knew that this place could be my new home. I instantly felt confident in making my decision to continue my education and soccer career at Greensboro College. I cannot wait to see my future as member of the women’s soccer team, but as a student-athlete as well.”

PREP: Lewis was a four-year member of the Stafford High School women’s soccer team, where she received Honorable Mention All-Conference two times. She graduated summa cum laude (with highest honors) while ranking 33rd in her class.

Why Greensboro College? “After visiting Greensboro College, I felt right at home. I loved the team and the atmosphere, and right away, I knew that this is where I belonged. I cannot wait to spend the next four years living, learning, and playing for Greensboro College.”
