High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind:Names and Numbers from Friday night and Chick-fil-A High School Football Game of the Week

We got our Chick-fil-A High School Football Game of the Week rolling last night and Page was sure rolling at Northern Guilford and if you have some time on your hands this weekend you can go back and check out last night’s game at GreensboroSports Radio….Page-Northern game and the Northeast Guilford-High Point Central game up there for your listening pleasure….

Now time to look back at some of our Names and Numbers from last night’s games in our Saturday Morning Rewind….

282:De’Shaun Taylor(High Point Christian Academy) starting to act like if not look like Tyrod Taylor with 282 passing yards and 3 TD tosses last evening for the HPCA Cougars going 7-17 in the passing department…
271:Will Jones(Page HS) with a very efficient 13-17 passing night, throwing for the 271 yards and 3 TD’s and he run for a TD to boot…Pirate QB seeing the whole/entire field and using it Will, I mean well…
184:Hendon Hooker(Dudley HS) Hooker went 8-12 for 184 yards and 4 Tds passing and 7 carries for 47 yards rushing and 1 TD vs. Ragsdale on Friday night…..Only on the field for one half of action, as the Panthers second and third units, carried them the rest of the way….
156:Bryson Jumper(Southwest Guilford HS) ran for 156 yards and 1 TD on 18 carries for the Cowboys…
123:Jaren Rainey(Southwest Guilford HS) had 123 passing yards going 10-27 for the night for SWG…
120:Javon Leake(Page HS) ran for 120 yards and 3 TD’s on 12 carries for Page and probably had at least 50 yards or more on punt returns….
110:Dre Davis(High Point Christian Academy) caught 4 passes for 110 yards and one TD on Friday night…
108:DJ Gray(Southwest Guilford HS) with 108 yards rushing and one score for Cowboys in their 18-0 win over HP Andrews….
91:Jaylen Guy(Southeast Guilford HS) took it the house and edged sibling Jaylen Guy by a yard and used to think they were cousins, but I guess they are brothers and this Guy goes 91 yards and the other Guy goes 90 yards for the TD…Both Guys scoring on kickoff returns…
90:Justin Guy(Southeast Guilford HS) goes “all the way” on the kickoff for the SEG Falcons….
82:DJ Crossen(Dudley HS) had an 82-yard punt return for a TD for the Dudley Panthers…..Committed to UNC last week and DJ headed to DC(Davie County) next week and was in the end zone at TP(Tarpley Stadium) last night…
76:Nile Harris(Grimsley HS) Nile is becoming a “Big Play” force for the Whirlies with his 89-yard kickoff return for a TD last week and now he hauls in a pass and goes the distance for a TD this week for GHS…Exciting year working/cooking for Harris….

*****Here is a grouping of BIG NIGHTS and we don’t have the totals numbers to go with these names, but we can post how many times they “Took it to the Post”, as in Goal Post last night…*****
Thomas Hennigan(Northwest Guilford HS) just got back on the field last night at Western Guilford and he wasted no time in “lighting up the scoreboard” and as a team, NWG hit the board and the line for 62 points last night and T. Dog Hennigan ran for 3 TD’s, threw for 1 TD, he caught a TD pass and tossed a two-point conversion pass and may have wrapped up the Bob Sawyer Player of the Week and the NCHSAA POW in one fell swoop…Good to see Thomas back on top of his game….Last night Hennigan had a hand in over half of the NWG points scored….Accounted for 32 points….
Hendon Hooker(Dudley HS) with another solid performance and Coach Fuentes up at VA Tech must be licking his chops each and every Saturday morning when he studies “The Rewind” and sees how Hooker did the night before….Last night it was Hooker throwing for 4 TD passes and running for one more and he might end up with 5 TD passes and 5 TD runs one week if he ever plays a full game….
Hooker went 8-12 for 184 yards and 4 Tds passing and 7 carries for 47 yards rushing and 1 TD last night only played the First Half….
Zion Walker(Eastern Guilford HS) making out like ‘Walker Texas Ranger’ last night as “The Z Man” Walker did a Chuck Norris on the SEG defense with 3 heavy hitters, for 3 TD’s and they were short bursts that hurt the Falcons and really gave the EG Wildcats the boost they needed to win the game at Bill Slayton Stadium on the SEG campus, and always a funny thing when SEG and EG get together, since Coach Slayton served time at both schools, EG and SEG….Zion Walker wasting no time at all getting the job done this season for Coach Doug Robertson’s EG ‘Cats….
Tre Turner(Northwest Guilford HS) and good to see Tre back out and ready to play again for NWG….He caught two TD passes from Thomas Hennigan last night and without seeing a full box score, I am thinking both TD’s were from Hennigan and maybe the chance exists that one of the passes may have come flying in from NWG’s Jacob Leonard….

$$$$$…..Mallard Creek over Matthews Butler last night, 35-20…..$$$$$
Mallard Creek Mavericks’ QB Chauncey Caldwell, the Durham Hillside transfer, had a solid game for MC as did RB Darnell Walker, who was big vs. Page HS in last NCHSAA 4-AA Championship Game…..Chauncey Caldwell threw three touchdown passes, Darnell Walker scored three times on runs for the MAVS…..

Charlotte Vance’ QB Kingsley Ifedi is putting up some real big numbers this season and I am pretty sure he is committed to East Carolina and here is what he was up to last night and Ricky Proehl’s other son was doing something with the numbers too and this Proehl is Blake and I am pretty sure he is headed to ECU too/two….(Austin, the other Proehl and played at Providence as well, before heading to UNC as one of the Heels’ WR’s.)

Senior quarterback Kingsley Ifedi(Charlotte Vance HS) passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns — including scoring strikes of 53 and 36 yards to Jaylin Carr and ran for another. Carr, a transfer from Mallard Creek, added a 27-yard touchdown run as the Cougars rolled to a 42-7 halftime lead and padded it under a continuously running clock in the second half.

Wide receiver Blake Proehl(Providence HS) scored all three touchdowns for Providence, on passes of 37 and 66 yards from quarterback Jack Cherry and on a 90-yard kickoff return on the game’s last play.
Final score was Vance 63, Providence 21
All on the Charlotte teams coming in from www.charlotteobserver.com…..

Richard Latimer was pretty big for West Mecklenburg down in the other County, just outside of Guilford and that would be Mecklenburg County…
QB Richard Latimer paced West Mecklenburg High, as he ran for four touchdowns and passed for another in the Hawks’ 45-6 win Friday against West Charlotte. Latimer completed 13-of-22 passes for 154 yards and ran for 100 yards on 16 carries

  1. Hendon Hooker went 8-12 for 184 yards and 4 Tds passing and 7 carries for 47 yards rushing and 1 TD. All in the first half before his night was done

  2. @witness and Andy- Greensboro N&R says Hendon Hooker actually passed for 5 Tds, ran one TD.
T Hannigan & Turner are a dangerous combo for NW. Might be the year for them. Any word on Jalen Spicer?
How did Grimsley’s new coach respond to loss vs Southern?

  3. Andy Durham said,

I think on Dudley and Hendon Hooker from the N&R on-line they had it 5 TD’s in the post headline, but when I counted up the box score, I counted 4 TD passes and 1 TD run…Will do a re-count, but that is what I came up with earlier and I know Witness was at the game and he will be there at all and I am pretty sure it was 4 TD passes and one TD run….

On more for the NG-Page game, we do need to give much credit to Page defensive coach Norman Weeks and to his defense for the way they shut out and shut down Northern’s offense last night…Nighthawk offense had a tough night, but the Page defense was there and had all to do with how much the NG offense was allowed to to do….

Like we mentioned last week, the fans turn out to see the offense, but in the End, Defense Wins Ball Games….Sort of a play on words, the Defense keeps teams out of the End Zone….
