ELON, N.C. – Erin Tanhauser scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute and the Elon University women’s soccer team defeated Coastal Carolina 2-1 on Thursday, Sept. 1, at CCU Soccer Stadium.

BOX SCORE

After Susannah Anderson scored for the Phoenix in the 34thminute and the Chanticleers answered with a late first half goal, Tanhauser scored on a loose ball in the box with just over 13 minutes to play to clinch the win for Elon. The Phoenix improves to 2-3 overall with the win and Coastal Carolina drops to 2-2-1 with the loss.

“Coastal Carolina is a very athletic, talented, and well coached team,” said head coach Chris Neal. “Paul Hogan has done an incredible job with his group. I’m extremely excited that we were able to come in and get a result against a team of that caliber. They forced us into very uncomfortable situations during the game and they made it incredibly difficult for us. Fortunately, for us today, we did enough at the right times to score on our set pieces and we had some huge defensive stops late in the game to get the victory.”
