College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 2, Wiliam Peace 0

RALEIGH, N.C. – Guilford College’s Juliana Evans-Anfom scored early for Guilford College to set the tone for the rest of the contest as the Quakers claimed a Saturday afternoon victory over William Peace University, 2-0.

Evans-Anfom’s goal came 2:39 into the contest in what was a quiet first 25 minutes aside from the Quakers’ score. Neither side tallied a shot outside of the goal in the first-half stretch. Guilford amassed three shots in a ten-minute stretch in the middle of the first half before the sides reached halftime.

Both sides kept each other’s offense in check for the first 20 minutes of the second half before William Peace fouled the Quakers inside the 18-yard box. After a Shannon Maddex save on a Kelsey Reilly penalty kick, Reilly followed her own miss past Maddex to grow the lead in the 66th minute.

The Quakers out-shot the Pacers, 11-1, thanks to seven second-half shots. Guilford also held a 5-0 edge on corner kicks while William Peace held a slight edge on fouls, 7-6.

Cheyenne Grim (1-0) earned the win for the Quakers in a first-half start. Maggie Albert relieved Grim in the second half, making one save. Maddex (0-2) made five stops in net for William Peace.

The Quakers open up their 2016 home schedule late Friday afternoon, hosting Salem College for a 4 p.m. kickoff as part of the Guilford/Salem Classic, being held at Guilford Friday with Saturday’s action taking place at Salem.
