College Volleyball Finals – William Peace 3, Guilford 1; Meredith 3, Guilford 0

RALEIGH, N.C. – Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday at William Peace University. The Quakers fell to the host Pacers, 3-1, and later fell to Meredith College, 3-0.

Guilford (4-4) lost to William Peace (4-2) for the second straight Saturday. The Pacers prevailed 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22. Casey Davis registered a double-double for the Quakers with 12 kills and 10 digs. Teammate Jessica Sheek added 10 kills on .286 hitting and Christian Ritter picked up a club-high 16 digs. Rookie Michaela Allred and Morgan Tompkins both contributed six kills apiece and classmate Tina Eucher had 34 assists.

Guilford had a hard time shutting down William Peace’s attack, which was led by Laura Bland’s 19 kills. Mya Parks added 12 putaways and 20 digs for the Pacers, who hit a robust .302 as a team. Carson Williams picked up 28 digs for the home team.

Later in the day Meredith improved to 7-0 with a straight-set win over Guilford. The Avenging Angels prevailed, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15. The first game was tied at 20-20 before Meredith pulled away and scored the final five points. Alex Hafliger had two of her 10 kills down the stretch. The second game was also a barnburner as Guilford was within 21-20 before Meredith closed out the game on three straight kills.

Caroline Corey had 13 kills on .294 hitting for the Angels. Keegan Lynch added 19 digs and Hannah Blaylock set up 32 assists.

Guilford’s Davis shared match-high honors with 13 kills. She also picked up 11 digs for her second double-double of the day. Allred (.500 hitting) and Sheek both had six kills and Ritter finished with 18 digs. Eucher set up 26 assists for Guilford.

Coach Emily Gann’s Quakers return home Wednesday (9/14) to host Methodist University at 7:00 p.m.
