College Women’s Soccer Final – Meredith 6, Guilford 1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Meredith College’s Jessica Wallace netted three goals as Guilford College dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to Meredith, 6-1, in day two of the Guilford/Salem Classic at Salem College.

Wallace scored all three of her goals in the first half as the Avenging Angels scored four times in the period, all in the first 25 minutes. Hannah Elvington scored the other goal for Meredith in the 15th minute.

The Quakers battled their way into the net in the second half, scoring the first goal of the period when Allison Van Voorhes fed Kelsey Reilly on a throw-in as Reilly headed the ball into the net to tally the Quakers’ goal. Kayla Boudreau netter two goal late in the second half for Meredith, netting the first one in the 81st minute and the second 2:37 later on the way to the win.

Meredith out-shot the Quakers, 20-8, but Guilford held the edge on corner kicks, 7-2. Maggie Albert made six saves in net for the Quakers. Jaisa Loch made two saves in net for Meredith, earning the start. Kat Pike played the majority of the second half while Brook Verburg finished the final eight minutes for the Avenging Angels.

The Quakers (1-2) enjoy the mid-week off before returning to action next Saturday, traveling to Johnson and Wales University (N.C.) for a 1:00 p.m. at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex in Pineville, N.C.
