PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – Philip Loeb’s opening round of 67 highlighted the first day of the Golfweek Program Challenge today, Sept. 11, as the Elon University men’s golf team sits ninth out of 16 teams through 18 holes of play.
Campbell (272) leads the way at 16-under par and Elon (284) trails by 12 shots after posting a collective score of 4-under par.
Loeb carded seven birdies in the opening round to tie his career-low mark of 67. The 5-under par round puts Loeb in a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard, just two shots off the lead.
Charlie May also finished below par for the Phoenix, posting a solid 1-under par round of 71. May sits in a tie for 26th with two rounds remaining.
In a tie for 35th is Jared Mactas, who shot an even-par 72. Mactas holed two birdies and converted one of six eagles on the day on the par 5 fourth hole.
William Harwood made his Phoenix debut and posted a 2-over par round of 74. The Columbia, S.C., native made four birdies in his first collegiate action and is tied for 52nd.
Jake Leavitt finished strong to shoot 82, which has him tied for 78th. Leavitt struggled to find his rhythm on the opening nine, but went 1-under par on his final nine holes.
Two rounds of play remain in the Golfweek Program Challenge. The action continues Monday, Sept. 12, and finishes Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Philip Loeb matched his career-low round with a 67 to open the tournament. Loeb also shot 67 in the third round of last year’s Golfweek Program Challenge.
