Elon’s Oliver, Moore Recognized by CAA Football

RICHMOND, Va. – After a 27-10 victory over eighth-ranked William & Mary, a pair of Elon University football players were honored with weekly CAA Football awards on Monday morning. Junior Demetrius Oliver was selected as the league’s special teams player of the week, while freshman Khalil Moore picked up co-rookie of the week accolades.

Oliver, who is from Portsmouth, Va., set up Elon’s first-quarter field goal by blocking a William & Mary punt on the Tribe’s opening possession. The field goal gave the Phoenix a 3-0 lead as the maroon and gold defeated a top-10 FCS program for just the second time in program history. He would also record one tackle on special teams later in the game.

Moore, a native of Charlotte, N.C., made a career-best 10 tackles and broke up two passes against the Tribe. His performance was part of a strong defensive effort put forth by the Phoenix as the squad broke up six passes, intercepted three others and had a pair of sacks. On the year, Moore has made 25 total tackles, broken up three passes and intercepted one pass.

Elon will return to Rhodes Stadium to take on a ranked Villanova squad on Saturday, Oct. 1 on Family Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
