Friday Night Finish:A lot to look back on for Tonight/Friday Night

Let’s begin by looking at this…..We have Dudley at (6-0), Southwest Guilford at (6-0) and Eastern Guilford at (6-0)…Eastern Guilford joined Dudley and SWG at (6-0) with a win over Morehead tonight….

Northeast Guilford got their first home win at Bill Bookout Stadium since October 8, 2014…NEG now at (2-4) and a chance to go to (3-4) overall and to go to (3-1) in the Mid-State 3-A Conference with a win over Morehead, at Morehead next Friday night…At one stage of this game according to Kris Walser, the game got tied up at 20-20 and NEG went up 37-20 and the final came down as NEG 37, McMichael 27….There was time in this game where the officials huddled and after giving the ball to NEG after a defensive stop by the Rams, the referees came together and reviewed the previous play and they gave the ball to McMichael….A review that changed the call??? That is what they had and it had to come from somewhere…..But how do you review a call in a high school football game? Like some of the coaches on the Rams’ sideline were saying, “Where is the Review Booth?”…..

Ragsdale got a win over Southeast Guilford and who knows, that might be the last time that Ragsdale Coach Tommy Norwood faces his old school, the SEG Falcons….SEG, a achool where Coach Norwood coached and had success back in the late 80’s and early-to-mid 90’s….Big win for Ragsdale over SEG tonight and Wyatt Smith said it was one of the best games that he had seen so far this season and Wyatt said, Ragsdale gave up 14 points in the first quarter, then scored 18 unanswered points to move ahead and then gave up a TD with 2 minutes remaining, but it wasn’t over with Ragsdale down, they returned the kickoff for a TD to win the ball game/game winner….

Northwest Guilford led the game tonight over Reidsville 7-0 and then the Vikings gave up 24 unanswered points and the Rams of Reidsville took a 24-7 lead to the late stages of the 4th Quarter….NWG added one more TD on a power run up the middle by Zach Tyler and the final score became, Reidsville Rams 24, Northwest Guilford Vikings 14….NWG lost the game and they lost their QB Jacob Leonard in the first half and he did not return to the game….NWG lost their quarterback to a concussion and they lost the game in the process….Leonard had one of passes batted up in the air and he caught the batted ball as it came down and he got knocked down/tackled hard by the Reidsville Ram defender and as Leonard went down he was done for the game….Leonard #12 out and Andrew Gilliam, #17, a sophomore checked in and led the Vikings the rest of the way….Tre Turner took a few of the Viking QB snaps, but NWG needed him more at his wideout spot and Gilliam ran the show with Leonard gone….NWG could have used Armon Gilliam back there tonight, God rest his soul and now NWG has to set their sights and hopes on getting the junior signal-caller Jacob Leonard back soon….He may have to miss his next game, if he has entered the concussion protocol…..NWG lost Thomas Hennigan and now they lose Leonard….This team must feel like they have a target on their backs and might be wondering who will go down next….NWG now at (4-2) on the season with conference set to begin next Friday night, vs. Ragsdale….That won’t be an easy task now, with Ragsdale back in the win column and their big victory over SEG tonight….

We will have more on the NWG-Reidsville game tomorrow on our Saturday Morning Rewind and we will be sure to get that Joe Sirera link up here so you can read the N&R report from Friday night’s game at NWG….Good to hear and see Dan Hylton, Cody Hylton’s dad on the PA up in the NWG press box on Friday night….Cody doing well with college hoops at Mars Hill and Cody’s sister in school, at Clemson….

Lots/loads of things to look back at from Friday night and with the way Reisville played tonight, Coach Derrick Johnson, from Reidsville, said the Reidsville Rams are ready to win it all…..

High Point Andrews got Smith tonight, 29-20 and Western Guilford played Southern Guilford to a close one, before the Hornets fell to the Storm, 13-7….SG now at (5-2) under new coach Earl Bates….Western Guilford has been really struggling, but even with that being said, it is going to be very hard for the Hornets to get back to the good old days….WG Hornets hoping for better days ahead and it will not come easy, that is for sure…..

That High Point Christian Academy-Randleman game must have been a real good one with the Tigers(Randleman) topping the Cougars(HPCA), 13-10….First loss of the year for HPCA and the Cougars lost to a quality team, in Randleman….

Outside of the area, the AL Brown(Kannapolis) win over Charlotte Vance, 24-21 looked real big tonight as well, with Vance being the #1 team in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 Poll last week….

Big games ahead for next week include Ragsdale-NWG, Smith at Dudley, NEG at Morehead, Page at Southeast Guilford, Grimsley at Southern Alamance, Southwest Guilford at Glenn, High Point Central-East Forsyth, Rockingham County at Northern Guilford, Eastern Guilford at Williams and more….

We will be looking at more, in the morning…..
