College Volleyball Finals – Eastern Mennonit 3, Guilford 1; St. Mary’s (Md.) 3, Guilford 0

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday at Eastern Mennonite University. The Quakers fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Eastern Mennonite, 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-21. Later in the day, St. Mary’s University of Maryland scored a 25-21, 25-15, 26-24 nonconference victory.

In Saturday’s opener, the Royals (9-8, 2-3 ODAC) got a match-high 19 kills and 13 digs from Maria Yoder to pull out a close four-set win. She accounted for 21.5 points in the match. Janna Williams chipped in 13 kills and Kait Miller added 10 for Eastern Mennonite, which overcame a 5-0 deficit in the clinching game. Jasmine Johnson set up 43 assists and Ginny Sorrell picked up 18 digs.

Morgan Tompkins’ 13 kills led Guilford. She also had 10 digs. Jessica Sheek and Christina Seaks both had seven putaways. Sheek had a match-high six blocks. Tina Eucker set up 31 kills. McKenzie Clapp and Christian Ritter shared team-high honors with 16 digs apiece.

Meghan Kelley had 13 kills on .306 hitting to lead St. Mary’s (13-7) to victory in the Quakers’ second match. Hannah Krauss had nine kills and three blocks. Mimi Graf had 36 assists. Marissa Dangler led four Seahawks in double-figure digging with 15.

Guilford’s Sheek had a huge match with 13 kills on .550 hitting, plus three blocks. Michaela Allred contributed a career- and match-best eight blocks and Tina Eucker had 19 assists. Casey Davis chipped in eight putaways and 11 digs. Ritter led the way with 16 pickups.
